Bilingual Research Assistant - Immigrant Workers in Michigan's Dairy Industry

A fluent Spanish-speaking Research Assistant is needed for a research study involving Mexican-born immigrant workers in Michigan’s dairy industry.

A fluent Spanish-speaking Research Assistant is needed for a research study involving Mexican-born immigrant workers in Michigan’s dairy industry. Our aim is to understand what drives workers’ decisions regarding migration, work, and integration into local communities; how their migration influences their families who remain in Mexico; and how their work in the U.S. dairy industry has potentially transformed the productivity and profitability gains from their labor.

To advance this work we need to immediately hire an MSU graduate or undergraduate research assistant. The grad student hourly rate is $12-15 and the undergrad rate is $10-12 an hour. The student hired is expected to work 10 hours a week for the rest of the semester and maybe longer.

Qualifications

The Research Assistant will be hired on the basis of evidence of: ability to work independently; communicate effectively with different groups; drive to targeted research areas to meet with study participants in Clinton, Ionia and Gratiot counties; communicate in Spanish with dairy workers; translate survey instruments from English to Spanish; and to conduct some data analysis.
